Year 2 - Art - Mono Printing

Ever wondered how a single print can capture a world of storytelling? ????✨ Our Year 2 artists have been diving deep into the vibrant world of Xgaoc’o X’are, a renowned artist celebrated for his incredible ability to blend cultural heritage with modern printmaking. Inspired by X’are’s focus on animals and movement, the children have been busy getting their hands a little messy while mastering the unique processes of monoprinting and carbon printing. Using a mix of bold ink and smudgy charcoal, our young creators practiced transferring their unique designs onto paper, discovering exactly how pressure and layering can transform a simple sketch into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. It was wonderful to see them experiment with the different textures of charcoal versus ink, and we are so proud of the artistic curiosity they showed in every print! #Year2Art #YoungArtists #XgaocoXare #PrintmakingKids #CreativeClassroom #PrimaryArt

Year 2 - Maths - Active Learning

Who knew that mastering money could be such a cardio workout? This week, our Year 2s took over the school hall for an energetic "Human Bank" challenge to put their addition skills to the test. Working in teams, the children had to plan how to make the amounts displayed on the board, with one member at a time sprinting the length of the hall to retrieve a single coin. The real breakthrough came when the children discovered the power of mathematical efficiency; they quickly realised that fetching a single 5p coin was much faster than making five separate trips for 1ps! It was a fantastic display of teamwork and strategic thinking, proving that the fastest way to the finish line is often the smartest way to count. #Year2Maths #ActiveLearning #PrimaryEducation #MathsIsFun #Teamwork #FinancialLiteracy

Year 2 - English - Non-Fiction Texts

Can you tell the difference between a fairytale and a fact file? This week, Year 2 swapped the classroom for the quiet corners of the library to explore the fascinating world of non-fiction. As they delved into a variety of information books, the children had brilliant discussions about how these texts differ from their favourite storybooks, identifying key features like glossaries, indexes, and contents pages. The biggest "lightbulb moment" came when they realised that while stories take us on imaginary adventures, non-fiction is a treasure trove of real-world facts! It was wonderful to see their curiosity grow as they discovered how to navigate these books to find answers about the world around them. #Year2English #LibraryVisit #NonFiction #PrimaryLiteracy #FactFinders #ReadingForPleasure

Year 2 - PE - Team Building

Can your child solve a puzzle using only their words and teamwork? This week in PE, our Year 2 students did exactly that as they tackled small-group challenges designed to build their cooperation and communication skills. The focus was on ensuring that every voice in the group was heard and valued, helping the children understand that a team is only as strong as its listeners. By practicing how to give clear, calm instructions, the students discovered the secret to success: when we communicate effectively, even the trickiest obstacles become easy to overcome!

Year 2 - Maths - Number Bonds to 100

How many ways can you make £1 using only the coins in your pocket? This week, Year 2 have been putting their mental math skills to the test by mastering number bonds to 100. By becoming "Number Bond Experts," the children have unlocked a vital secret for their work with money: understanding that £1 is exactly the same as 100 pence. The students used this knowledge to explore how to build a pound using different combinations of coins, from handfuls of copper to stacks of silver. These foundational skills are not just helping them in their math books, but are preparing them for real-world scenarios like shopping and saving!

After diving into the story of The Colour Monster to identify and untangle different emotions, the children shared their favourite ways to stay calm and regulated. To celebrate their new skills, everyone got creative by decorating "Crowns of Calm", serving as a colourful reminder that they have the tools to bounce back from any challenge!

Year 2 Art: Drawing Using a Photo From a Video

Year 2's new art topic is "Exploring the World Through Monoprint," and our young artists have already made a stunning start. To find their inspiration, the children carefully watched a nature film, pausing at different moments to capture the wonders of the wild in their art. Year 2 worked hard to develop the skill of observational drawing by practicing the "look and draw" technique, constantly glancing back and forth between the screen and their paper to make sure they were drawing accurately. By focusing on these fine details, Year 2 are building a fantastic foundation for the next stage of their monoprinting adventure!

Year 2 - Design Technology - Healthy Wraps

Our Year 2 designers have been busy exploring the world of nutrition as they designed and created their very own healthy wraps! After studying the Eatwell Plate, the children gained a fantastic understanding of how a balanced diet—incorporating various food groups—provides our bodies with the different nutrients they need to stay strong and energised. Putting their culinary skills to the test, the students carefully prepared their chosen ingredients by practicing precise cutting, grating, and peeling. Once their vibrant wraps were assembled, the lesson concluded with a thoughtful evaluation, where the children reflected on their flavor combinations and making process. Well done, Year 2, for being such creative and health-conscious chefs!
