Year 2 - Guided Reading - New Vocabulary
To help us understand the story of the Pied Piper, the children moved around the room with six different vocabulary cards. Their mission was to match each new word to the correct definition hidden in different spots. At our school, we love active learning because it gets everyone moving while we learn tricky new words. It was a brilliant way to build our reading skills and get ready to dive deeper into the story!
Online Safety - App and Play Stores
With millions of apps available and children accessing them from an increasingly young age, app stores can present a range of risks. From malware and copycat apps to inappropriate content and persuasive in-app purchases, this Wake Up Wednesday guide highlights how easily young users can encounter issues – even when using official platforms. It also offers clear, practical advice to help parents and educators manage these risks. From setting up parental controls and checking app credibility to having open conversations about safe usage, the guide supports adults in building children’s awareness, encouraging safer choices and promoting more balanced, responsible app use
Year 2 RE: The Bread and Wine as Easter Symbols
Year 2 had an amazing RE lesson as we explored the story of The Last Supper. We were delighted to welcome Rev Kev, who listened to us retell the events of Holy Thursday. Together, we shared bread and water, reflecting on the significance of the meal and looking at the story through the eyes of the different disciples. It was an incredible way to showcase our RE knowledge and delve deeper into some big questions!
Year 2 Maths: Arithmetic Practice
Our Year 2 mathematicians have been sharpening their arithmetic skills! We’ve been exploring a whole "toolbox" of different strategies to help us solve calculations quickly and accurately. It wasn't just about getting the right answer, but finding the most efficient way to get there.
Year 2 Geography: Collect and Present Data
Our Year 2 geographers were out doing fieldwork to investigate the wildlife and plants right on our doorstep! We’ve been busy collecting primary data to see exactly what shares our local environment, from moss and grass to ants and flies.
Year 2 Science: Testing Stretchiness
Our Year 2 scientists put materials to the ultimate test! Working in expert teams, we investigated which everyday items have the best elasticity. From paper and string to plastic and rubber, the children used their "fair testing" skills to see which would snap and which would stretch! Brilliant observations and even better teamwork, Year 2!
Year 2 English: Creating Adjectives
Year 2 took their English lesson outside today to transform our playground with comparative and superlative adjectives! Using colourful chalk, the children turned the tarmac into a giant word map. They described how our playground looks now and how they want it to look in the future using the -er and -est suffixes. It was a brilliant way to see our learning in action while reimagining our school space!
Year 2 Maths: Capacity
Making a Splash with Maths! Our Year 2 mathematicians swapped their pens for measuring cups to dive into the world of capacity! The mission? To estimate and measure exactly how many cups of water it takes to fill different containers. From tall bottles to wide bowls, we discovered that looks can be very deceiving!
Year 2 PE: Defending skills
Our Year 2 athletes were on fire in PE, mastering the art of defending! We’ve been learning that a great team isn't just about scoring goals... It’s about stopping them, too! From "ready stances" to quick footwork, the children showed fantastic focus in our goalkeeping games.
Year 2 Maths: Times-tables challenge
Year 2 Rock Battles! The classroom was electric today as our Times Tables Rock Stars took to the stage! We’ve been smashing our personal bests to level up our 2, 5, and 10 times tables - even Miss Mulligan had a go to show that practice makes progress! We are looking forward to battling the other classes and really testing our multiplication knowledge!
Year 1 & 2 STEM Challenge: How do birds make nests?
Year 1 and 2 turned into Ornithologists to hunt for natural nest materials, then switched to Structural Engineers to build nests that met our three "Bird-Approved" criteria: strong, waterproof and comfy! The nests were put to the test with a fan that represented the wind birds might face in their natural habitat and everyone's nest survived!
Year 2: Lunar New Year dance workshop
Dancing Through the Great Race! Our hall was alive with energy as our pupils took part in a vibrant Lunar New Year Dance Workshop! To celebrate the Year of the Horse, the children didn't just learn about the Legend of the Great Race... They lived it! Through movement and choreography, they told the story of how the twelve animals of the Zodiac crossed the finish line.
