Year 6: English - Active Learning
This week we have been trying to include aspects of active learning during our usual lessons. We used different coloured cones in English to pair up with people we don't usually work with! It was a great strategy to get the students moving, and working with different people.
Year 6: History - The Sikh Empire
This week in history year 6 analysed a variety of sources, to gain a historical perspective of how Ranjit Singh was seen at the time of the Sikh Empire. We spoke about the 5 'Rs' and discussed how reliable different sources may be.
Year 6: SATs Week
This week has been SATs week, and everyone has worked so hard with fantastic attitudes during the tests and lessons - so we have made sure to add in extra mindfulness sessions.
Year 6: Science - Evolution
This week in Science, year 6 have been learning about evolution. We looked at Charles Darwin's voyage to the Galapagos, and the adaptations he found in local species of finch.
Year 6: History - The Sikh Empire
This week in history, year 6 have located Lahore and several important trade routes to the Sikh Empire - including the Silk Road. We used atlases to locate the trade routes, and develop knowledge of the importance of trading goods and cultural exchange.
Year 6: Revision
Year 6 have been preparing for their SATs next week! They have worked extremely hard to develop their arithmetic and reasoning skills this year, and we are all proud of their efforts so far!
Year 6: English - Storyboards
Year 6 have been planning for their upcoming independent writing, which will revolve around a shipwreck. We used storyboards to plot out ideas for the structure of the writing and grammatical features to include.
Year 6: Guided Reading - Retrieve
This week year 6 have been continuing to develop their understanding of unfamiliar texts by answering retrieval questions. We focussed on how to unpick questions, and scan the text for keywords.
Year 6: English - Subordination
This week year 6 are expanding on their knowledge of grammar, by focusing on the subordinating conjunction 'since'. They have been writing examples that relate to their class text 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.
Year 6: Maths - Geometry
This week year 6 are continuing their unit on geometry. They have been focusing on understanding angles in triangles, vertically opposite angles, and how to apply their previous knowledge to new contexts.

Year 6: English - Explanation Texts
This week in English, Year 6 will be writing an explanation text - to explain to the reader about the historical significance of the Maya Civilisation. They are focussing on the accuracy of their punctuation when including the grammatical features taught this term.
