Year 3 - English - The Characters, Settings and Events In A Story
This week, Year 3 traveled thousands of years into the past! We dove into the story of Stone Age Boy to discover what life was like long ago. The children became history detectives as we explored: Characters: We looked closely at the boy and his friend, Om. We talked about how they were different and what they learned from each other. The Setting: Using clues from the pictures and text, we described the cold caves and the busy Stone Age camp. Key Events: We mapped out the most exciting parts of the story, from the moment the boy tripped into the cave to his amazing adventures learning to hunt and flint-knap.
Year 3 - P.E - Hockey Skills
Year 3 had a fantastic lesson, mastering the core fundamentals of hockey. The lesson focused on building a solid foundation through three key areas: The Perfect Grip: Students practiced the "shake hands" grip, ensuring the left hand stayed at the top of the stick with the flat side always facing the ball. Close Control: Through a series of dribbling drills, the children learned to keep the ball "glued" to their stick using short, controlled touches to navigate around obstacles. The Push Pass: We concluded with partner work, focusing on the push pass. Students worked on keeping the stick in contact with the ball and following through toward their target for maximum accuracy.
Year 3 - Art - Learning About The Work Of Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle
Year 3 spent a thoughtful afternoon acting as art critics as they delved into the textile masterpieces of Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae. The children spent time observing how both artists use fabric as a canvas, noting the contrast between broad sweeps of fabric paint and the delicate, rhythmic lines of stitching. Through group discussions, the pupils responded to the emotional impact of the work, sharing their thoughts on how the layered textures made the stories within the art feel more "alive" and three-dimensional.
Year 3 - History - Learning About Ancient Rome
This week, our Year 3 historians stepped back in time to walk the bustling streets of Ancient Rome. By investigating the city’s most iconic ruins, we uncovered the secrets of Roman life and engineering. From the towering stone tiers of the Colosseum, where we imagined the roar of the crowds, to the breathtaking dome of the Pantheon, pupils explored how these incredible structures shaped the daily lives of Roman citizens. It was a fascinating journey through the architecture that built an empire!

Year 3 - PSHE - Managing Risk
This week, our Year 3 pupils took a proactive step in developing their personal safety skills during an insightful lesson on managing risk. The classroom was buzzing with thoughtful discussion as the children were presented with a variety of everyday scenarios, ranging from road safety to online interactions and physical play. Working in small groups, the children carefully analysed each situation to identify potential hazards. They demonstrated impressive maturity by articulating exactly what made certain behaviors dangerous and, more importantly, brainstormed practical strategies to reduce the risk to both themselves and those around them. By the end of the session, the pupils had gained a clearer understanding of how to assess their environment and make informed, responsible choices. It was wonderful to see them building the confidence and vocabulary needed to stay safe in an ever-changing world!

The classroom was a hive of focused activity as the pupils carefully measured and manipulated card and paper, demonstrating impressive dexterity. They followed instructions to create geometric shapes and symmetrical designs, proudly showing off the results of their precision work. Every child took immense pride in their finished decoration, which looked perfect ready to be hung on the Christmas tree at home!
