Year 5 P.E. - Dodgeball
This week in P.E., Year 5 engaged in the fast-paced, strategic game of dodgeball. Students began by practising core skills—such as throwing accuracy and evasive movements—in small team drills. This focus on technique was crucial before they applied their learning in an energetic, whole-class game. The lesson was highly successful, allowing pupils to develop teamwork and quick thinking while having a great deal of fun!
Pre-School- P.E-Ball Skills
In P.E. last week, the children were practising their throwing skills. They worked in pairs, with one child holding a hoop as a target and the other pretending their ball was a snowball to throw through it. They had a great time and worked really well with their partners. Lovely teamwork all round.
Year 1 PE: Tracking the ball
This week in PE, Year 1 focused on developing the vital skill of tracking the ball. This involves using both their eyes and their body to follow the ball's movement . Each child had to defend their net against an opponent trying to score, which meant constantly keeping their eyes on the ball, anticipating where it was going, and using quick body movements to successfully intercept or block the shot. The children demonstrated great effort in staying balanced and reacting quickly to the path of the ball, which is a key skill for many sports!
Reception- Physical Development- Leaf Threading
Reception class children enjoyed our leaf threading task today to enhance their fine motor skills. This task involved the precise manipulation of threading materials, such as thick laces through holes punched in or around autumn leaves. Successfully completing this task required significant hand-eye coordination, focusing the child's attention on coordinating their movements to thread through the small target area.
Year 4 P.E. - Gymnastics
This half term, the focus of Year 4's P.E. lessons is gymnastics. We are learning how our muscles need to be stretched to prevent injuries before we use them in physical activities and practised moving via a variety of rolls. Year 4 are getting pretty good at this!
Year 1 - PE - Dribbling Skills
Developing great control in PE! Year 1 focused on dribbling the ball with different parts of the foot and changing direction around the cones.
Reception - Physical Development- Scissor Control
In Reception we know that mastering scissor control is so much more than just cutting paper. It’s about building hand strength, developing hand-eye coordination, refining bilateral integration (using both hands together), and boosting concentration. These skills are vital for everything from writing their name and fastening buttons to eventually using a keyboard. The children have been putting their skills to the test and using them to cut out objects to make links to our phonics.
Year 6: P.E - Dodgeball
This half term year 6 are working on the skills and tactics needed to improve their dodgeball performance. We are focussing on playing small team games, with an emphasis on accurate throwing towards a moving target. L.O: To hit a moving target.
Nursery - P.E - Stepping Stones
In this week's PE lesson, the children focused intently on the core skill of balancing, inspired by the part of our class story where characters must cross the bottom of a waterfall by balancing on rocks. To recreate this challenge, Nursery class were provided with a variety of stepping stones of different shapes, sizes, and textures. The main objective was for the children to maneuver across the stones without falling into the imaginary "water." This required them to use gross motor movements to step carefully up and down and constantly adjust their balance. They did a brilliant job adapting their steps to the different heights and surfaces, demonstrating growing awareness of body control and spatial awareness. This challenging activity successfully developed their stability and coordination on various terrains.
Pre-School- PD-Glow In The Dark Dodgeball
Last half term the children had the opportunity to take part in Glow in the dark Dodgeball. The children had the best time learning new skills to help them play dodgeball, whilst glowing up in the dark.
Year 2 - PE - Skipping
Year 2 absolutely excelled in PE this week, learning how to skip with a rope! They showed great patience, listening carefully and building the skill up step-by-step with Mrs Cookson's guidance. Their focus paid off immediately: the majority had successfully mastered the technique by the end of the session. It was wonderful to see the genuine surprise and delight on their faces as they achieved something they didn't expect! Well done, Year 2, on showing fantastic skill and a great attitude!
Year 1: PE - Jumping and Skipping Skills
Year 1 pupils were outside practicing how to skip and jump. They worked hard on their coordination and balance by learning to turn the rope, find the right rhythm, and jump smoothly. They are building great physical fitness and control!
