Nursery - Maths - Categorising Objects By Colour
In Nursery class we have been working on colour recognition, the children have been exploring the malleable table throughout the week to find objects of different colors and sort them into the correct category. The children have really progressed throughout the week and have become more confident when naming, finding and sorting different coloured objects. Well done, Nursery class!
Nursery - Art And Design - Creating Eric Carle Inspired Animals
In Nursery class this week our story of interest has been 'Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see?'. The children enjoyed exploring the different colors and animals featured in the story during our craft activity. They were tasked with using our story props to support their understanding of colour. All of the children were encouraged to vocalise the colour names, some children were able to identify the colors they could see and correctly find the colored tissue paper they would need for their chosen animal. They then created animal art work in the style of the author Eric Carle. The children produced some brilliant pieces of work, well done everyone!
EYFS- PSHE-Christmas Magic Show
We had a magical day for all the children in EYFS experiencing a Christmas Magic Show. We watched magic tricks, a puppet show and the children enjoyed joining in with all the different acts. We danced to music and then a special visitor arrived.....' SANTA'.
Nursery - Maths - Making Reindeer Dust
On our malleable table this week, Nursery class have been making reindeer dust. The children have used spoons, cups, jugs, bowls and various other objects to scoop the ingredients and create their reindeer dust. The children were challenged to use their listening skills and follow an instruction such as, 'one cup of oats' and 'a sprinkle of glitter'. We counted out the scoops as the children added more and encouraged the children to count along and repeat key words 'more' 'empty' and 'full'. Once everything was measured and mixed the children filled up little bags to take home for Santa's reindeer on Christmas eve.
Nursery - Science - What's in the Gift?
This week the children in nursery class have been investigating the hidden objects inside presents. The children were asked what they thought would be inside, but we couldn't see anything! Once the gift was placed on the light table, a shadow appeared, the children were challenged to spot characteristics of the shadows they could see to enable them match the correct gifts. The children really enjoyed choosing their own presents and observing what objects appeared when placed on the light table.
Nursery - Computing - Navigating purple Mash. Create A Stocking
In Nursery class this week we have been looking at Christmas celebrations. To tie in with this, the children decorated their own stockings on purple mash. The children have been learning how to navigate the draw function on this website, understanding that they need to scroll to find the different colours and making the link between the colour selected and observing the change in colour of their marks. The children made marks on their stockings in different ways, some children made lines and movements with their finger to create marks and others decided to tap the screen to create dots. They made some beautiful stockings!
Nursery - Literacy - Fine Motor Skills - Decorating The Christmas Tree
In Nursery class this week, we have been getting into the Christmas spirit! We got our Christmas tree out and an array of decorations for the children to hang on the tree. The children were encouraged to use a pincer grip to open the string on the baubles, perfect early practice for pencil grip! We also spoke about the colours that the children could see. Found big and small baubles. Discussed the shapes we could see. And spoke about the textures of the different decorations, shiny, sparkly, smooth, rough, fluffy... The children have loved rearranging the baubles throughout the week and admiring the different decorations.
Nursery - Music - Experimenting With Loud And Quiet Sounds
During our music lesson this week we have been experimenting with loud and quiet sounds. The children took it in turns to select an instrument to use and then tested them out to see what sounds each instrument made. We then explored how we could adapt how we played the instrument to change the volume level. The children were able to play the instruments softly to create quiet sounds and also were able to adjust the way they played the instrument to make loud sounds!
Nursery - Maths - Investigating Big And Small
In Nursery class this week we have started looking at opposites. The first opposite we investigated was big and small. The children used their good looking skills to find and match two objects on the table that varied in size, they were then tasked with vocally labelling each item as big or small. The children then enjoyed taking part in this activity with a friend during independent learning, taking turns to find the first object for the other friend to match. Nursery class showed a good awareness on big and small, well done everyone!

Nursery - Fun in The Snow
On Tuesday the children were very excited that we had woken up to a snow covered community! We all got our wellies and wet suits on, wrapped up with hats scarves and gloves and went out to explore in our garden. The children enjoyed noticing the differences in the garden, the slippery ground, the icy leaves and the cold snow among many other changes. We made footprints in the snow, made snowballs and went sledding. Happy snow day!
Nursery - RE - Show And Tell: Recognising Family Members And Different Family Structures
During RE this week, Nursery class looked at our different families. We started by looking at a picture of baby Jesus and his family, the children noticed and named Mummy and Daddy in the picture and showed a good understanding of Jesus' immediate family. The children then got to show everybody their own family members! They took great joy in telling their friends about the pictures on the screen and naming who they could see. Some of our friends had really BIG families with lots of people and some of our friends had small families, we even had some pictures of fur-family members.
