Year 5 Holy Communion Service
Year 5 Visit St James’ Church for Holy Communion On Tuesday morning, Year 5 visited our church for a special Holy Communion service. It was a wonderful opportunity for the class to gather in worship and reflection. During the service, we were incredibly proud of one of our brave class members who stood at the front to read from the Bible, specifically Exodus 35:21-22. Inspired by the teachings of Paul to the Corinthians—that God loves a cheerful giver—the children also shared heart-felt prayers they had written themselves about the importance of giving cheerfully. It was a moving morning for everyone involved, showcasing the class’s growing confidence and their thoughtful contributions to our church community.
Year 2 R.E. - Can You Find Features of a Mosque and a Synagogue?
Our Year 2 explorers went on a scavenger hunt this week to discover the beautiful features of a Mosque and a Synagogue. Working in teams, the children raced to find clues hidden around the classroom, matching descriptions to pictures of important features. From the tall minarets of a mosque to the Ark within a synagogue, our learners showed fantastic teamwork and curiosity. It was wonderful to see the children discussing how these special buildings are similar or different to our church that we visited last week. Well done, Year 2! #Year2RE #CuriousLearners #Teamwork #RespectAndUnderstanding #SchoolScavengerHunt
Year 2 - RE - Exploring Our Church
What makes a building truly special to a community? This week, Year 2 moved their RE lesson beyond the classroom for a visit to the local church to speak with Reverend Kev. The children explored the unique features of the building, discovering the importance of the pulpit, the cross, and the special box used to store the chalice and paten. They were fascinated to see the small wooden box containing the numbers for the hymns and were particularly amazed to look through original parish magazines dating all the way back to 1906. It was a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to learn about the history and sacred objects that make the church such a significant place for so many people. #ReligiousEducation #Year2 #LearningOutsideTheClassroom #Community #PrimaryEducation #RE

Year 6: RE- Advent
This week in RE Year 6 have continued to understand Advent from a Christian perspective. We looked at the importance of Mary, and studied historic artwork of her, analysing the iconography which has been used, and thinking about what these symbols represent. L.O: To understand the importance of Mary.
Year 4 R.E. Christingle
Year 4 had Rev Kev visit them to talk about Christingle, as part of our R.E. curriculum. After learning about the symbolism of the Christingle, Year 4 were honoured to be of assistance and help make 70 Christingles for the Church, which were used in service this past Sunday. We were also lucky enough to make one for ourselves!
Year 1 RE Retelling the Nativity Story
The children in Y1 worked together to retell the Nativity story, using picture prompts to help them remember each part. They took turns speaking to the class, explaining what was happening and listening carefully to one another. We’ve been thinking about what Christmas means to Christians, and this activity gave the children time to slow down and reflect on the story behind it. There were some thoughtful comments, growing confidence and lots of pride in sharing their ideas. Moments like this are a reminder of how powerful storytelling can be, especially when children feel safe and supported to have a go. A lovely, calm way to bring the Nativity to life in Year 1
Year 6: R.E. - Advent
This week year 6 have learnt about who John the Baptist was, and his role in the life of Jesus. We worked collaboratively to bring ideas together. L.O: To understand the role of John the Baptist.
Year 4 RE
Year 4 have enjoyed decorating their angels for a whole-school piece of artwork, to be used by Church. We cannot wait to see what the completed piece will look like!
Year 6: R.E. - Advent
This week Year 6 have started our advent unit of work. We looked at the significance of the advent period for the Christian faith, and learnt about what each element of an advent wreath represents.
Year 5 RE - Sorting Details from the Nativity Story into the Correct Gospel
This week, Year 5 started a fascinating RE unit on the Nativity. Our goal is to become Bible detectives, meticulously studying the Gospels of Luke and Matthew to pinpoint the origins of the story's famous scenes. Students were amazed by the fact that certain traditional details, such as the donkey and the stable, are absent from the biblical text! We reinforced this learning with a fun, hands-on activity, sorting pictures of the Nativity story according to whether the scene is described by Matthew or by Luke.
