The Reception children hosted a Teddy Bears’ Picnic during music class this week. The children showcased their hard work by performing the classic song with enthusiastic hand gestures and impressive rhythmic timing. The atmosphere was heartwarming as each child sat proudly on their blanket alongside a "special guest" brought from home—ranging from well-loved, tattered bears to vibrant plush dinosaurs. To wrap up the lesson, the music transitioned into a peaceful background melody while the children shared a snack with their stuffed companions, perfectly blending musical education with a sweet moment of social bonding.

Our classroom transformed into a mini-laboratory today as the children became scientists exploring the magic of colour! Using clear jars of vibrant primary-coloured water, the children took part in a hands-on experiment to discover what happens when colours collide. There were gasps of excitement and plenty of "oohs" and "aahs" as they carefully poured and mixed the liquids themselves. They watched with wide eyes as the blue and yellow swirled together to create a bright green, and red and blue transformed into a deep purple. By taking the lead in their own investigations, the children were able to see the immediate "cause and effect" of their actions, sparking wonderful scientific discussions about how many new shades they could create.

In our sand area today, our little builders turned into a team of royal architects! The children worked brilliantly together to create a magnificent castle fit for a giant. Using a mix of sturdy bricks and textured sand, they communicated their ideas with wonderful clarity, discussing exactly how to make the walls tall enough and where the giant would sleep. It was fantastic to hear them negotiating space, with one child suggesting, "Let's use the sand to make a moat!" while another added, "We need the biggest bricks for the giant's tower!" By sharing their thoughts and listening to each other’s suggestions, they successfully added a grand entrance and a lookout point, proving that their teamwork was just as strong as their building.
NSPCC Number Day - Our Nifty Number Outfits!
Count Us In for NSPCC Number Day! Our school was looking a little different today as we swapped our usual uniforms for a sea of digits and mathematical patterns! From our youngest learners in Preschool to our eldest in Year 6, everyone joined in the fun to celebrate the NSPCC’s Number Day. It was wonderful to see the creativity on display, with both children and staff wearing their favourite numbers to help raise vital funds for the NSPCC’s "Speak Out, Stay Safe" programme. Whether it was a football jersey, a hand-decorated t-shirt, or even a giant birthday number 7, the whole school community came together to prove that there really is safety in numbers. A huge thank you to all our families for your brilliant efforts with the outfits and for your kind donations. It’s a fantastic day of problem-solving and numbers, all for a very important cause.

This musical progression culminated in a vibrant "Showcase Day," where the children took the lead in their learning. Performing in front of their peers, the children displayed a surge in confidence, accurately applying their knowledge of tempo and rhythm to their chosen pieces. In our recent R.E. lesson, the Reception children have been captivated by the powerful narratives of the Old Testament, exploring the themes of courage, faith, and protection. The classroom buzzed with excitement as the children listened to the stories of Noah’s Ark, Jonah and the Giant Fish, and Daniel in the Lions' Den. To bring these ancient tales to life, the children used sensory objects—such as soft animal figures and rough wooden blocks—to interact with the plotlines as they unfolded. Following our storytelling sessions, the children channeled their creativity into hands-on activities to reinforce their learning: Engineering for Noah: Using large blocks and scrap materials, the children worked together to build a sturdy boat capable of "weathering the storm." Artistic Expression: Small hands were busy cutting out blue whales and crafting majestic lions with manes made of bright orange paper. Narrative Retelling: These handmade props became the stars of the show as the children used them to retell the stories to their peers, confidently explaining why a particular moment was their favorite. It was a joy to see their coordination and confidence grow as they successfully matched their movements to the rhythm, laying a fantastic foundation for their future musical journey.
