Let’s Talk Dummies – Helping Your Pre-Schooler Get Ready to Talk and Learn
Dummies can be really helpful when children are little, especially for comfort and sleep. But as they grow and get ready for nursery or school, dummies and bottles can start to get in the way of their talking. Using a dummy too much can make it harder for children to: • Babble and practise new sounds • Move their tongue properly for clear speech • Develop teeth and mouths in a way that supports speaking All of these things are really important as children build their confidence with talking, listening and joining in – key parts of being ready for school. How can you help? • Try to keep dummy use just for sleep times • Take the dummy out when your child is playing, exploring or talking • Start to reduce dummy use gradually – and aim to stop altogether before they turn 2 If you’re not sure where to start or would like some ideas, just ask a member of staff – we’re always happy to help. Together, we can support every child to find their voice and feel confident for their next steps. ????????
Online Safety - Nintendo Switch 2
Nintendo’s long-awaited Switch 2 has finally arrived, blending fresh hardware with fan-favourite franchises. From Mario to Pikachu, the familiar mascots are back – but so too are evolving online features, in-game purchases, and potential exposure to mature content. As ever, it’s essential that parents and educators understand the risks to young players. Among these are GameChat voice communication, camera-based gaming, and potential access to mature-rated titles. This guide outlines what to watch out for and how to keep children safe, engaged and having fun.
Nursery - P.E - Ball Skills - Throwing, Catching And Rolling.
During PE, Nursery class focused on fundamental ball skills, specifically rolling, throwing and catching. The children engaged in independent, small group and paired activities, demonstrating a range of developing abilities. In the small group rolling activity, many children showed good control, pushing the ball forward with an open palm. Some were beginning to anticipate the ball's movement and adjust their body to receive it. The children have been developing the coordination required to consistently send the ball in a straight line. Transitioning to paired throwing, the children were at different stages of mastering this skill, while their aim varied, they all worked on releasing the ball with an underarm throw. All of the children showed enthusiasm and persistence, readily retrieving their balls and attempting throws again.
Nursery - PSHE - Sorting Seasonal Clothing
During PSHE this week, our focus was seasonal clothing, Nursery class participated in sorting various items. The children were presented with a selection of clothing and accessories, including wellies, sunglasses, a cap, a woolly hat, a coat, and a dress. The discussion began with prompting the children to identify each item and consider when they might wear it. When shown the wellies, children vocally identified them, and some made splashing motions, and made links with the pussles they could see out of the window, demonstrating an understanding of their use in wet weather. Following the discussion, the children were encouraged to separate the items into two distinct piles: "summer" and "winter". The children were able to accurately place items like sunglasses, caps, and dresses in the summer pile, often accompanied by exclamations of "hot!" or "sun". Conversely, items such as the woolly hat and coat were predominantly sorted into the winter pile, with some children rubbing their arms as if cold. While a few children initially misplaced an item, gentle redirection and a brief recap of the associated weather conditions helped them self-correct. This activity demonstrated the childrens developing understanding of personal, social, and emotional development through their ability to make connections between clothing and weather. Their engagement in the discussion and their sorting accuracy suggest an awareness of the world around them and how to adapt to different environmental conditions. The hands-on nature of the task fostered cognitive development and fine motor skills as they manipulated the clothing items.
Nursery - Maths - Art - Creating Lions With Simple Shapes
This week, Nursery class had a fantastic time exploring shapes in a creative maths lesson at the craft table! We got busy making magnificent lion faces using simple shapes: circles and triangles. Before sticking, the children were encouraged to trace the edges of each shape with their fingers. As they traced, they voiced the names and descriptions of the shapes – "round and round" for the circle and "spikey" for the triangle! Following a modelled example, the children carefully placed their shapes to create their own unique lion faces. It was wonderful to see their concentration as they copied the design, developing their fine motor skills and shape recognition all at once. Our little mathematicians did a brilliant job bringing their lions to life while learning all about basic shapes.
Online Safety - Youtube Kids
YouTube Kids promises a safe, child-centric experience with colourful visuals, age-filtered content, and robust parental controls. Designed to appeal to younger viewers, the app has grown rapidly, being used by tens of millions of children worldwide. But is it as safe as it seems? Despite YouTube Kids’ safeguards, reports have highlighted worrying issues, such as inappropriate content slipping through filters, subtle advertising, and the use of manipulative design to keep children engaged. Our guide explores how to navigate these pitfalls, offering practical advice for making sure children get the most from the platform – without the risks.
Nursery - R.E - Exploring Our Community
This week, Nursery class took part in a heartwarming RE lesson, all about community! We started by looking at a special picture of our whole class together. It was so lovely to see all our happy faces! We learned a new, important word: 'community'. We talked about how our class is a community, a special group of people who are together and care for each other. The children then had a chance to choose a friend from our class picture. It was delightful to see so many cuddles and high-fives being shared! We chatted about how we can help our friends feel happy, whether it’s sharing a toy or giving a kind smile. We also introduced the beautiful idea that people caring for each other is just like Jesus taught us. It was a gentle and meaningful way to explore how love and kindness bring us all closer, right here in our own school community. The children really engaged with the lesson, showing great recognition of their friends and demonstrating their understanding of being part of our special community. What a joy to see such love and connection in our classroom!

Nursery - Literacy - Fine Motor Skills
This week, our two-year-olds put their fine motor skills to the test with a fun lion-themed challenge! The children were tasked with creating a magnificent lion's mane using clothes pegs. This was a fantastic way to strengthen those little hand muscles! Some of our children focused on the crucial first step, diligently practising just squeezing the pegs open and closed. This action is vital for developing hand strength and coordination. Others, ready for the next challenge, skillfully navigated the pegs onto the lion's face, carefully attaching them to form a spiky, mane. It was wonderful to see each child working at their own pace, developing essential skills that will help them with everything from holding a pencil to buttoning their coats. Our little learners showed great determination and focus.

Nursery - Phonics - Identifying Animal Sounds
Today, the nursery class actively engaged in a Phase 1 Phonics activity, focusing on listening and identifying wild animal sounds. The children displayed excellent listening skills, showing focused attention as different animal noises were played. They enthusiastically participated, attempting to identify each sound and often trying to imitate them. It was noted that some of the sounds were familiar, like the lion, while others, such as the elephant or monkey, introduced them to new animals, directly linking with our current story, Dear Zoo. This activity was excellent for developing their auditory discrimination, a key pre-reading skill, and also supported their language development and cognitive abilities through sound-matching and recall. The children's high level of engagement showed it was a fun and effective learning experience.
Nursery - Literacy - Creating Cards
Nursery class have been busy making Father's Day cards, an activity rich in developmental benefits. They eagerly engaged in peeling star stickers, a task that was tricky but greatly boosted their fine motor skills and concentration. Many showed great persistence in detaching and placing each sticker. Transitioning to the inside of the cards, the children explored mark-making with crayons. This not only supported their pre-writing skills and hand-eye coordination but also offered a powerful outlet for self-expression. The session was marked by high levels of engagement and creativity, as the children enjoyed the tactile experience of creating something special for their dads and guardians at home.
