Nursery - Maths - Art - Creating Lions With Simple Shapes

This week, Nursery class had a fantastic time exploring shapes in a creative maths lesson at the craft table! We got busy making magnificent lion faces using simple shapes: circles and triangles. Before sticking, the children were encouraged to trace the edges of each shape with their fingers. As they traced, they voiced the names and descriptions of the shapes – "round and round" for the circle and "spikey" for the triangle! Following a modelled example, the children carefully placed their shapes to create their own unique lion faces. It was wonderful to see their concentration as they copied the design, developing their fine motor skills and shape recognition all at once. Our little mathematicians did a brilliant job bringing their lions to life while learning all about basic shapes.

Reception RE - Learning About Islam

What a wonderful way to explore and learn! Our Reception children have been diving into "Learning About Islam," and these photos capture some fantastic moments. It's clear to see how many aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage are being met here: Understanding the World: Children are developing a deeper understanding of different cultures, beliefs, and traditions. This helps them make sense of their community and the wider world around them. Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Through activities like role-play and respectful learning, children are building empathy, respect for others, and a positive sense of self. They're also learning about different ways people express their beliefs. Communication and Language: Whether discussing what they've learned, asking questions, or explaining concepts to each other, these activities encourage rich language development and communication skills. Expressive Arts and Design: We can see children engaging with props and potentially creating their own understanding through imaginative play, fostering creativity and self-expression. It's inspiring to see our young learners so engaged in such meaningful and inclusive education! #EYFS #EarlyYears #UnderstandingTheWorld #DiversityAndInclusion #LearningAboutIslam #ChildDevelopment #ReceptionClass

Reception - Maths - Equal and Unequal Groups

Look at our brilliant Reception class in action! They've been immersed in some fantastic Maths learning, focusing on "Equal and Unequal Groups." It's wonderful to see the children so engaged and hands-on, developing crucial early mathematical concepts. They're exploring: Counting and Cardinality: Precisely counting objects within groups. Comparison: Visually and practically identifying when groups have the same or different numbers of items. Problem Solving: Working together and independently to sort and arrange objects to make groups equal or understand why they are unequal. Practical activities like these are so vital in the early years for building a strong foundation in maths. Great work, everyone! #ReceptionClass #EarlyYearsMaths #EYFSMaths #EqualAndUnequalGroups #HandsOnLearning #EarlyYearsEducation #ProblemSolving

Reception - Art and Design - Creating Sharks

Our Reception class has been unleashing their inner artists with some fantastic "Art and Design" work! They've been busy "Creating Sharks," and it looks like a wonderfully messy and engaging process. Activities like these are brilliant for developing so many key skills: Creativity and Imagination: Children are encouraged to express their ideas and bring their vision of a shark to life. Fine Motor Skills: All that moulding, shaping, and decorating helps strengthen those small hand muscles essential for writing and other tasks. Problem-Solving: Deciding how to form the shark, what materials to use, and how to add details requires thoughtful planning and execution. Sensory Exploration: Engaging with different textures and materials provides a rich sensory experience. What amazing focus and concentration from our young artists! We can't wait to see the finished shark masterpieces! #ReceptionClass #ArtAndDesign #EarlyYearsArt #CreativeKids #FineMotorSkills #SensoryPlay #CreatingSharks #EarlyYearsEducation

Nursery - R.E - Exploring Our Community

This week, Nursery class took part in a heartwarming RE lesson, all about community! We started by looking at a special picture of our whole class together. It was so lovely to see all our happy faces! We learned a new, important word: 'community'. We talked about how our class is a community, a special group of people who are together and care for each other. The children then had a chance to choose a friend from our class picture. It was delightful to see so many cuddles and high-fives being shared! We chatted about how we can help our friends feel happy, whether it’s sharing a toy or giving a kind smile. We also introduced the beautiful idea that people caring for each other is just like Jesus taught us. It was a gentle and meaningful way to explore how love and kindness bring us all closer, right here in our own school community. The children really engaged with the lesson, showing great recognition of their friends and demonstrating their understanding of being part of our special community. What a joy to see such love and connection in our classroom!

Nursery - Literacy - Fine Motor Skills

This week, our two-year-olds put their fine motor skills to the test with a fun lion-themed challenge! The children were tasked with creating a magnificent lion's mane using clothes pegs. This was a fantastic way to strengthen those little hand muscles! Some of our children focused on the crucial first step, diligently practising just squeezing the pegs open and closed. This action is vital for developing hand strength and coordination. Others, ready for the next challenge, skillfully navigated the pegs onto the lion's face, carefully attaching them to form a spiky, mane. It was wonderful to see each child working at their own pace, developing essential skills that will help them with everything from holding a pencil to buttoning their coats. Our little learners showed great determination and focus.

Pre-school-Maths-Patterns-Notice Error in Repeated Patterns

Children used different activities to find errors in repeated patterns, some children had to find the error using colour bears some had picture cards and had to identify the error and others used lego bricks to help them find the error in the repeated pattern. Finding errors in repeated patterns is a crucial step in developing early mathematical thinking in Early Years children. It helps them understand the concept of a "unit of repeat" and strengthens their logical reasoning skills. This helps the children with- Pattern Recognition: It reinforces their understanding of what a pattern is and how it repeats. Logical Reasoning: It encourages them to think critically and identify what doesn't fit the established rule. Problem-Solving: It provides a hands-on opportunity to fix mistakes and see the immediate result of their correction.

Pre-School- UTW-Life Cycle Of A Caterpillar

Over the last few weeks the children have been observing caterpillars and watching what happens next. We introduced the eggs to the children and explained what is in the jar. As the weeks went on we started to see the caterpillars pop out of the eggs and start to grow. The caterpillars got bigger and bigger and then needed to go home with Mrs Corbally to be looked after in the holidays. At this time the caterpillars went into their cocoons and we waited and waited to see what happened next. On the first day back into nursery we had butterflies! The children helped to feed the butterflies sugar water and oranges before letting them go.

Nursery - Phonics - Identifying Animal Sounds

Today, the nursery class actively engaged in a Phase 1 Phonics activity, focusing on listening and identifying wild animal sounds. The children displayed excellent listening skills, showing focused attention as different animal noises were played. They enthusiastically participated, attempting to identify each sound and often trying to imitate them. It was noted that some of the sounds were familiar, like the lion, while others, such as the elephant or monkey, introduced them to new animals, directly linking with our current story, Dear Zoo. This activity was excellent for developing their auditory discrimination, a key pre-reading skill, and also supported their language development and cognitive abilities through sound-matching and recall. The children's high level of engagement showed it was a fun and effective learning experience.

Pre-School- PSHE- Changing As We Grow

The children have been learning how we change over time and what things we need to make this happen. The children discussed that babies need food and sleep to grow. To help us grow the children talked about looking after our bodies, we spoke about losing our baby teeth and getting our adult teeth and this is a sign of growing up. We talked about the different stages of growing up from a baby to an adult looking at pictures and using each other to measure our growth.

Reception - RE - Visit To The Church

As part of our unit on Special Places, Reception Class visited our local church. They took time to notice all the special parts in the church such as the cross and coloured windows. We then discussed how people worship God and we had our own worship time using the instruments.
