Our young artists are taking their volcano paintings to the next level by exploring the tactile world of textiles. Before we merge fabric with canvas, we spent today’s lesson mastering the foundational skill of stitching.
Year 5 Art - Learning to Use Acrylic Paints
Fast-Paced Fine Art: Year 5 Master Acrylics! There was a real "brush" of excitement in the Year 5 classroom this week as we swapped our usual paints for acrylics! For many of our young artists, this was their first time working with this professional medium, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. A Race Against the Clock! The children spent the lesson experimenting with blending and layering to create atmospheric backgrounds for our upcoming art project. However, they quickly discovered the most important rule of acrylic painting: work fast! Unlike watercolors, acrylic paint dries incredibly quickly. Our pupils had to be decisive with their strokes and expert with their mixing to get their colors just right before the paint set. They showed fantastic resilience and "quick-thinking" creativity! The Science of Color We focused on: Color Mixing: Creating unique tints and shades. Texture: Learning how the thick, plastic-like nature of acrylics can be layered for effect. Medium Control: Managing how much water to add (or not add!) to change the opacity. These stunning, textured backgrounds are now drying and ready to become the foundation for our final masterpieces. Year 3 - Art - Exploring Hot And Cold Colours
Our Year 3 artists turned into color experts this week as they explored the "mood" of the color wheel! We dove into the world of Hot and Cold colors to see how temperature changes a painting. From fiery reds and glowing oranges to icy blues and chilly purples, we discovered how artists use color to spark different emotions.
Year 2 - Art - Mono Printing
Ever wondered how a single print can capture a world of storytelling? ????✨ Our Year 2 artists have been diving deep into the vibrant world of Xgaoc’o X’are, a renowned artist celebrated for his incredible ability to blend cultural heritage with modern printmaking. Inspired by X’are’s focus on animals and movement, the children have been busy getting their hands a little messy while mastering the unique processes of monoprinting and carbon printing. Using a mix of bold ink and smudgy charcoal, our young creators practiced transferring their unique designs onto paper, discovering exactly how pressure and layering can transform a simple sketch into a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Pre-School- Expressive Art And Design-Cutting Skills
At our workshop this week, we have been busy learning how to use scissors safely, practising how to hold them correctly and making snips in paper. Some of the children found this tricky at first but persevered and were able to make snips independently. The activity involved cutting out different fruits for Handa’s basket, linking to our story of the week, Handa’s Surprise.
Reception- Physical Development- Gross Motor Painting
In our Reception classroom this week, the children refined their gross motor skills through the expressive act of painting tigers. Rather than being confined to small movements, the children use their entire arms and shoulders to sweep across large canvases, building the core strength and postural stability necessary for later physical development. When creating the tiger's face, they practice purposeful circular movements, rotating their arms from the shoulder and elbow to master the coordination required for fluid shapes. This physical effort is paired with cognitive milestones as they engage in color selection; reaching across the easel to choose fiery oranges and deep blacks encourages crossing the midline, a crucial neurological development. As they pivot their bodies and stretch to add stripes, these young artists are not just painting—they are strengthening the large muscle groups that provide the foundation for balance, coordination, and eventual fine motor control.
Year 5 Art - Making Visual Notes
Our Year 5 artists have begun a journey into the world of Monotype Printing! We’ve been drawing inspiration from the incredible Kevork Mourad, an artist famous for his unique way of "drawing" into ink to create prints. By watching videos of his process, the class created detailed visual notes to deconstruct how he builds his masterpieces. We learned that unlike other types of printing, a monotype produces a unique, one-off image. The children are now ready to take these professional techniques and apply them to their own creative work. Watch this space for our finished prints!
Nursery - Art - The Three Little Pigs
This week, the children visited the craft table to create their own pigs, directly linking to our core story, The Three Little Pigs. The process began with a paper plate as a base. The children practiced their spreading skills using pink PVA glue to create an even layer for their design. They then used their fine motor skills to carefully pinch and place pink tissue paper to cover the pig's face. To add the features, including eyes, a nose, ears, and a curly tail, the children used their own faces as a reference to determine the correct quantity of each item needed. This encouraged them to identify and count the features before placing them onto their pigs. This activity successfully combined creative expression with early mathematical counting and a better understanding of their own physical features.
Pre-School-Expressive Arts And Design-Making Puppets
Our workshop table has been a hub of creativity this week! To bring the story of Little Red Riding Hood to life, the children have been busy making puppets. It was wonderful to see them experimenting with different shapes to create the perfect hood and carefully drawing faces on their characters. These lolly-stick puppets are now ready to star in our very own puppet theater performances!

This week has been a very arty week , The Children have enjoyed getting messy while fruit printing. The children discussed what fruits might have been in grandma's basket from our story little red riding hood. The children used apple,banana,pear and carrot to dip in to paint to create their fruit print picture.
Year 3 - Art - Learning About The Work Of Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle
Year 3 spent a thoughtful afternoon acting as art critics as they delved into the textile masterpieces of Alice Kettle and Hannah Rae. The children spent time observing how both artists use fabric as a canvas, noting the contrast between broad sweeps of fabric paint and the delicate, rhythmic lines of stitching. Through group discussions, the pupils responded to the emotional impact of the work, sharing their thoughts on how the layered textures made the stories within the art feel more "alive" and three-dimensional.
Reception- Expressive Arts and Design- My Gingerbread Man
This week, our Reception children have been fully immersed in a delightful sensory experience, using play dough to design and sculpt their very own gingerbread men. This hands-on activity encouraged the children to explore their creativity while strengthening their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Using gingerbread-shaped cutters, they carefully pressed out their figures before adding unique personality through various enhancements. They selected buttons to line up on the chest, small beads or "googly" eyes to bring the faces to life, and even used gingerbread cut-outs as templates to guide their designs. It was wonderful to see the children experimenting with different textures and shapes, turning a simple lump of dough into a colorful, imaginative character.
