Reception Class - A Music Lesson at the Church!
Whilst visiting our local Church, we decided to have our music lesson there. We learnt that during services the congregation like to dance around the Church to a lively song when they give their money, so we also danced around the Church! Then the children enjoyed playing the African drums, shakers and tambourines to "King of me!"
Introducing Recount Letters - Year 2
Year 2 have started their English topic on recount letters. We have read a variety of letters developing our reading fluency. Today we investigated different unknown words from the letters we read.
A Visit to our Church for our RE Unit on Special Places.
As part of our RE unit on Special Places, Reception visited our local church. Rev Kev was there to show us around and the children enjoyed spotting all the crosses in the church. They could also see the font that is used to baptise babies, all the silver cups for communion and a beautiful stained glass window with a picture of Jesus .
Pre-School- Literacy and Maths- Calendar
Everyday Pre- school children take part in Calendar time. In this short activity we learn the day, date, month and what letter sound they start with. The children learn to recognise their own name card and letter sound. We then count how many children are in our class and put them into groups, recognising which group has more or less.
Pre-School- Maths-Rocket Shapes
The children have used different materials and shapes to create Rockets. The children recognised squares, rectangles and triangles and we counted how many sides each shape had.
Year 1 - History
In History, Year 1 are learning about Sir Francis Drake. The photographs show the children following the route of Sir Francis Drakes circumnavigation of the world on his galleon, The Golden Hinde.
Year 1 - Science - Melting Materials
Year 1 have been learning about the effects of heat on different materials. We exposed ice cubes, chocolate, sugar and wax to heat and recorded our findings.
Year 1 - Art and Design - Knotting and Winding
In Textiles, Year 1 have been experimenting with knotting and wrapping techniques. They practised knotting wool to a stick and then winding it around until the whole stick was covered.
Year 4 English - Poetry
We have started a new English Unit this week - based on the poem 'The River' by Valerie Bloom. We have spent the week exploring some of the writing styles, images and also exploring some physical features of rivers.
Year 4 Maths - Money
This week we have started our new topic of money... whilst discreetly continuing our previous topic of decimals. A important topic in this day of age, especially in a new generation of contactless payments, Apple and Google Pay etc. Had some good fun.
Reception - Understanding the World - Understanding Arrows
Reception class discussed what the different arrows mean and their names (forwards, back, left and right). They then had to follow my instruction when I showed them an arrow, moving one step in that direction.
Reception - Maths - Finding 9 and 10
Reception Class have been continuing developing their understanding of number by identifying 9 and not 9 and 10 or not 10. Some of the pictures tried to trick us, so we had to be very careful when subitising and counting!
